The first Mental Health First Aid training of this academic year is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hilltop Café. Please note that this will be a live training with no virtual component. MHFA training sessions are limited to 20 participants per training group, so there will be ample room to practice social distancing.

Mental Health First Aid is a national training initiative that teaches professionals outside the mental health field how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. The training provides skills needed for faculty and staff to reach out and provide initial help and support to students who may be experiencing emotional, cognitive, or interpersonal distress, as well as substance use problems. This training makes it more comfortable to start conversations about mental health and substance use problems by improving understanding and providing action steps to assist students in getting the help they need.
