The Saturday Art Workshop for Children

The Saturday Art Workshop (SAW) is a CCSU program that offers opportunities to participating children from the Greater Hartford region to take Art classes at the university. First and foremost, however, SAW serves as a pre-student teaching practicum through which Art Education students begin working with students and establishing their teaching skills. The classes are instructed and designed by CCSU students accepted to the Art Education Professional Program.  Each semester, SAW runs for seven to eight weeks on Saturday mornings from 9:30AM – 11AM.  Our students work with a variety of media in lessons that are fun and engaging.  Students enrolled in the SAW program range in age from 5 years old (Kindergarten) through 18 years old (High School).

Classes will begin on March 8, 2025 at 9:30 and end on May 10, 2025.  There are no refunds for missed classes.  Please NOTE: There will be no class on March 22 and April 19 as the university is closed for Spring Break and a Weekend of Reflection. The art exhibition reception for the Saturday Art Workshop is scheduled from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on May 10, 2025, immediately following the final class. Parents and students may collect their works no earlier than 11:45 a.m. on May 10, and all works must be picked up in the Conference Room in Maloney Hall by May 16.

When registering your student using the link below, you must send the official registration form along with the required fee, which is $50 per student ($40 per student if more than one household family member is registered).  We must maintain a 15:1 student/teacher ratio; thus, we will cap course enrollment for each class accordingly. To ensure a spot for your student, early registration is highly recommended. Registration form and payment are due by February 3, 2025. Please note that we assign students by age and we cannot accept requests for students to be placed together.
