
Music is Central
Central's Department of Music is one of Connecticut's leading programs for training the next generation of music educators and artists. The students and faculty of the Department of Music contribute to the musical life of the campus and the community through performances both on- and off-campus.
Music majors can pursue the following degree programs:
- Music Education (B.S.)
- Jazz Studies (B.A.)
- Music Technology (B.A.)
- Performance (B.A.)
- Theory and Composition (B.A.)
- Flexible Music Concentration (B.A.)
- Music with External Minor (B.A.)
Entrance to the major is by competitive audition. The music department also offers a minor, courses for non-majors, and numerous performance opportunities. Our degree programs are fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

Central Music Ensembles
The Department of Music offers all students at Central, regardless of major, opportunities to participate in a variety of ensembles, including three bands: Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and Pep Band; three choirs: University Singers, Chorale, and Vocal Jazz; a traditional Big Band Jazz Ensemble as well as several jazz combos; and orchestra (Sinfonietta); the Central iPad Ensemble; and a variety of chamber ensembles.
