International Graduate Admissions Requirements
International students are selected for graduate admission to Central Connecticut State University based on a review of their academic success in their previous education.
When filling out your international student application and all other related documents, be sure to use your full name as it appears on your passport.
To be considered for admission, international graduate applicants must submit the following:
- Completed online application (ccsu.edu/apply):
- $50 application fee or fee waiver
- Program-specific application requirements
In addition to the application, application fee, and program-specific requirements, international students must also complete the following requirements.
English language proficiency requirement
An undergraduate academic degree from an U.S. institution of higher education or from an overseas institution where the primary medium of instruction is English may be considered as proof of English competency.

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate their English proficiency by submitting one of the following:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Information on the TOEFL may be obtained from Educational Testing Services. The three versions of the TOEFL that a prospective student may take are listed here with minimum acceptable scores:
- Internet: minimum score of 79
- Computer: minimum score of 213
- Paper: minimum score of 550
- The International English Language Testing System Exam (IELTS) is also accepted. A minimum band score of 6.5 is required for admissions consideration.
- Duolingo English Test(DET)minimum score of 105 is also accepted.
Official transcripts and records of undergraduate and graduate studies from all institutions attended.
An original foreign credentials course-by-course evaluation report from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). The evaluation should include verification of the U.S. equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Deadlines
International students should apply by June 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester.
Important Information
- Central Connecticut State University is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant, permanent resident students. These students will be required to submit proof of immigration status.
- There is at present no financial aid available for non-U.S. students. Graduate assistantships may be available to international students who are available for on-campus interviews and/or who have successfully completed a semester of graduate study at Central Connecticut State University.
- International students seeking an F1 VISA are not eligible to apply for non-degree seeking graduate programs and programs for Connecticut teachers or teacher preparation.
