Robotics and automation are rapidly transforming various sectors, from manufacturing to healthcare, and our program ensures that students are at the forefront of these advancements. By offering a robust educational foundation combined with hands-on experience, we prepare our graduates to excel in these dynamic fields.

Central is proud to offer the Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Technology (RMET) program, which is not only the first of its kind but also holds the prestigious distinction of being the only ABET-accredited robotics program in the nation. This accreditation underscores the exceptional quality and rigor of our curriculum, designed to equip students with cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Technology.

Robotics and automation are rapidly transforming various sectors, from manufacturing to healthcare with salary between 65K-105K, and our program ensures that students are at the forefront of these advancements. By offering a robust educational foundation combined with hands-on experience, we prepare our graduates to excel in these highly demanding fields such as Industry in General, Robotics, Automation, Control, Instrumentation, Automated Manufacturing Systems, Automotive Industry, Space Industry, Artificial limbs, Medical Industry, Food-packing plants, and Others.

Salient features of the RMET program

  • An important educational aspect of this program is its focus on development of practical/ hands-on skills of the graduates through integral laboratory component/activities in all technical ROBO courses designed for this major (Major Requirements).
  • Two hours of laboratory component/activities will be offered for every two hours of lectures.
  • A minimum 400-hour internship in relevant industries is included as a graduation requirement (ROBO 496 - 3 credits).
  • A one-semester capstone course (ROBO 497 Capstone: Senior Project) integrates the diverse elements of the curriculum to develop student competence in both technical and non-technical skills to solve real-world problems.

The program will develop strong analytical skills through very challenging math and sciences requirements.

Accreditation

ABET Accreditation - Engineering Technology Accreditation Co

The RMET curriculum is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET,WWW.ABET.ORG.

Career Outcomes:

The state of Connecticut has a strong manufacturing base which persists even in tough economic times. Currently, there is a strong demand for highly skilled employees of all levels in the area of high-technology manufacturing, and unfortunately a shortage of qualified candidates. The RMET Program answers this call by providing graduates with a strong background in robotics and mechatronics for all areas of manufacturing as well as other industries employing such technologies. This includes hands-on technical ability, comprehension of theory and design, management, and project management. Graduates can expect to be qualified for a wide variety of job positions, including, but not limited to:

  • Robotics / Automation Engineer
  • Robotics / Automation Application Engineer
  • Robotics / Automation Equipment Sales
  • Automation and Controls Engineer
  • Manufacturing or Industrial Engineer
  • Robotics or PLC Programmer
