The words of Traé Brooks

When & Where

February 29 - April 4, 2024
1615 Stanley St, New Britain, CT 06050

In this exhibition entitled Impermanence, artist Traé Brooks (Windsor, CT) uses sculpture, painting and found materials to preserve the histories of people, places and memories. Brooks acknowledges the stories behind each piece and their enduring impact, which become a part of his own story. Brooks earned his BFA in Painting from the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford in 2019. He is currently a year-long artist-in-residence at the Steel Yard in Providence, RI. Brooks recently showed his work through a solo exhibition at Real Art Ways in Hartford, CT and in group exhibitions at the Widener Gallery at Trinity College, the Farmington Valley Arts Center, and the Albany Center Gallery in NY.

This exhibition was curated and organized by Fall 2023 Art 490 Curatorship students Kathy La, Emilie Lopez, Wayka Galarza-Rodriguez, and Justin Torres under the guidance of Assistant Professor Priya Green. These students had the unique opportunity to produce and plan a professional exhibition including personally inviting the artist to show at the gallery, working directly with Brooks to select the pieces and concepts for the space, and creating a marketing plan and budget. This exhibition was fully funded through a Faculty-Student Research Grant prepared by Wayka Galarza-Rodriguez.
