About The Gallery

The Central Art Gallery serves as the official exhibition space for Central Connecticut State University and invites renowned contemporary artists from around the world to the campus. The gallery is run by the Department of Art & Design and is located on the second floor of Maloney Hall. The Central Art Gallery is first and foremost an educational gallery. In addition to presenting noteworthy exhibitions, the gallery also hosts lectures, public programs, exchanges with other institutions, and provides Central students the opportunity to work and learn directly in the space. Every semester, the gallery presents three major exhibitions including those of invited artists, guest curated exhibitions, as well as Art & Design student showcases and faculty exhibitions. At the end of the academic year, graduating Art & Design students showcase their capstone and final projects in the annual Capstone Exhibition. The gallery also presents exhibitions curated and facilitated by students in the Art 490 Curatorship course.

For decades, the Central Art Gallery has been a prominent feature of the Department of Art & Design for students, faculty, and the campus community at large. The gallery has featured artists from all over the country and is proud to have shown acclaimed artists such as Philip Pearlstein, Faith Ringgold, Judy Chicago and many more.
