Central opened its new Library Annex building, a 15,000-square-foot addition to the Elihu Burritt Library on Oct. 15 with nearly 100 guests on-hand to celebrate. Speakers included David Barkin, chief architect with the State of Connecticut; Central Provost Kimberly Kostelis, and Central President Zulma R. Toro.

The $18 million project launched in the summer of 2023 and features new construction and renovations to the existing library building. The annex includes new classrooms and labs, as well as a new Learning Commons and Physics faculty offices. The structure incorporates sustainable wooden timber within the classrooms and labs in a nod to the university’s commitment to a green campus.

“Investments in facilities like this are crucial,” President Toro said. “In a landscape where technology and collaboration are key, these modern spaces foster critical thinking and creativity. They serve not only as places for study but as hubs for collaboration, dialogue, and discovery.”
