Central Connecticut State University's General Education & Honors programs aim to create well-rounded citizens beyond their chosen major. By taking courses in a variety of disciplines, students gain a broad knowledge base and essential skills like critical thinking and communication. This flexibility prepares them for a changing world and allows them to excel in various careers.
General Education Program
The General Education Program focuses on several areas: understanding the arts, humanities, and sciences; developing critical thinking and communication skills; becoming information literate; fostering personal health and civic responsibility; and recognizing social justice issues. Students can fulfill these requirements through designated courses, some of which may overlap with their major or minor studies.

Honors Program
The Honors Program offers high-achieving students an alternative to some general education requirements, including an annual scholarship, small classes, and priority registration.
Benefits include a $4,500 annual scholarship, smaller class sizes (capped at 25), priority course registration, and access for all majors. The program features intriguing interdisciplinary courses, some of which fulfill general education requirements, and culminates in a thesis class where students choose their own topic.
