Please consider nominating a faculty member for the Bradley M. Waite Research Award, which is presented annually to a Central faculty member in recognition of outstanding contributions in the fields of research with human subjects and research compliance. This award was established to celebrate excellence in research with human subjects, service in research compliance administration, and instruction in the conduct of ethical research.
This award is named for Dr. Bradley M. Waite from the Psychological Science Department, who served as the chair of the Institutional Review Board (formally known as the Human Studies Council) for over 25 years. During his tenure, Dr. Waite was the campus authority in all areas involving research with human subjects, and personally reviewed thousands of research protocols for Central’s faculty, staff, and students.
Examples of relevant activities in which excellence could be demonstrated:
• Conducting research requiring sensitivity to ethical issues in working with human participants;
• Supporting colleagues in addressing ethics in their research;
• Serving on the Central Institutional Review Board;
• Supervising student work (e.g., dissertations, theses, independent research projects) as an advisor and/or committee member involving mentoring on human subject ethics;
• Class instruction on human subject ethics in the conduct of research.
Please submit a statement of up to 500 words describing how the nominee has demonstrated excellence in activities such as the examples listed above. Nominations can be made by faculty and staff. Self-nominations are acceptable.
Nomination statements must be emailed by noon on Monday, March 31, to Sue Malley at malleys@ccsu.edu. The winner will be notified in advance and the award will be presented at the Faculty Day and Excellence in Teaching Award Ceremony on Friday, April 25.
