Central announces new logos, brand guidelines

The Central Connecticut State University brand is sporting a new look.

The university’s Marketing and Communications team unveiled a brand-new logo system and marketing and promotional tools at the annual employee kickoff this morning. It has been nearly 20 years since the university logo has been updated.

“This addition to our marketing platform has been a long time coming,” says Central Connecticut State University President Zulma R. Toro. “Central is leading the way in higher education, and this updated branding brings us into the 21st century. I am excited for this new look to become part of the greater conversation. Our students, faculty, and community partners can all share in this next step for Central.”

Central’s official university seal will remain as its legacy logo. The new marketing logo includes an icon rendering of the university clock tower at Davidson Hall, in a nod to the legacy logo.

“This new logo exemplifies the forward-thinking spirit of Central,” says Dr. John Day Tully, interim associate vice president for Academic Affairs. “We are at the cutting-edge of preparing undergraduate and graduate students to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. This design should remind everyone of how Central is adapting to our students’ and the state’s needs.”

The Athletics Department’s Blue Devil logo is well known among Central sports fans. Because the popular image is exclusive to Athletics, the Marketing and Communications team created a counterpart logo that can be used campus-wide.

To accompany the new logos, the university has published official brand guidelines to unify the overall look and feel of university publications and materials. In the coming weeks, the Marketing and Communications team also will provide marketing templates that can be used for PowerPoint presentations, flyers, posters, and letterhead.

Early reviews from students have been enthusiastic.

“The new logo allows Central to enter a new era of improvement for future generations and creates a sense of belonging for all Blue Devils!” says Diannely Espino, one of several students previewed the logos ahead of the launch.

Sophomore Rhamel Wilson notes, “The new logos bring a more modern and fresher feel to the campus community and gets people excited to represent our school!”

To celebrate today’s launch, the Marketing and Communications team created a TikTok video viewable here. Espino and Wilson star with President Toro, Kizer the Blue Devil, and student-athlete Bella Santos.
