Central Connecticut State University hosted a Lunar New Year celebration on Feb. 12 at Alumni Hall, featuring dance performances; cultural presentations from visiting artists and Central faculty and students; and remarks by Deputy Consul General Suguru Minoya, Consulate General of Japan in Boston, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
New Britain Alderwoman Candyce Scott also attended and presented a City Council resolution that formally recognizes and celebrates the Lunar New Year.
The resolution notes, “The City of New Britain recognizes the importance of cultural celebrations in fostering diversity, inclusion, and understanding among all residents. The contributions of the AAPI community have enriched the cultural, social, and economic fabric of New Britain, and the Lunar New Year serves as an opportunity to honor these contributions and promote cross-cultural appreciation.”
The celebration was sponsored by the Central Asian American, Asian, and Pacific Islander Center and the Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies program.
