Central to a greener future: Climate Change Studies

Published:

Two new programs at Central Connecticut State University will prepare a new generation of professionals to address the impacts of human-generated climate change; find solutions toward a greener future; and engage in community outreach and education efforts.

The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs in Climate Change Studies share an interdisciplinary core that highlights the multiple causes and effects of climate change. Central is the only university with approved Bachelor of Climate Change Studies degrees in the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Climate Change Studies will learn to communicate the central causes of climate change to non-technical audiences and apply scientific understanding to social problems in creative ways. They will graduate with the necessary skills to help communities translate STEM-based recommendations into practical plans of action within private industry, academia, government, non-profit organizations, and beyond. This program requires 63 to 65 credits, depending on selected course of study.

The 36-credit Bachelor of Arts in Climate Change Studies program emphasizes coursework in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and behavioral sciences. Graduates will have the knowledge to make meaningful contributions in helping to address the causes and human impacts of climate change—from policy work and journalism to cultural resource management and environmental consulting.

Central offers full and part-time enrollment; access to state-of-the-art labs; financial aid and scholarships, and much more. For full program details and admission requirements, visit www.ccsu.edu/programs/climate-change-studies-bs and www.ccsu.edu/programs/climate-change-studies-ba/.
