Central thanks KBE for donation to campus food pantry

The shelves at Central Connecticut State University’s food pantry will get a boost thanks to a recent donation from KBE Building Corporation of Farmington.

KBE’s nonprofit foundation awarded $500 to Maria’s Place, the on-campus food pantry at Central. Members of the KBE team visited campus on Sept. 27 to present a check to Central President Zulma R. Toro and members of her executive team including Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Kellie Byrd Danso and Associate Dean of Student Affairs Ramon Hernandez, among others.

Maria’s Place opened in 2017 at the Newman House, across the street from the main campus on Manafort Drive. Increased demand and a need for more storage space prompted the pantry’s move onto the main campus in 2018. It is housed on the lower level of the Vance Academic Center and offers free nonperishable food and toiletry items to the Central community.

By offering students free and anonymous on-campus food assistance, Central aims to provide more direct access to the nourishment they need to thrive academically.

President Toro noted, “I can tell you that many students have taken advantage of the services available at Maria’s Place since it opened. Thanks to generous supporters like you, we will meet their needs and continue to fight against food insecurity.”

The KBE Foundation provides support for non-profit programs and organizations that work to enhance the quality of life in its local communities.
