Enrollment underway for College Police Academy

Published:

The Central Connecticut State University and New Britain Police Department College Police Academy will run from Nov. 5 to Dec. 3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. (No meeting on Thanksgiving Day.)

The College Police Academy is an externship program that immerses students in the police profession while embedding them within a police agency. This experiential learning and professional development opportunity is open to undergraduate students, with priority given to Criminology majors. Participants will gain exposure to the department's organizational structure, rank hierarchy, operational logistics and strategies, the diverse duties of sworn and civilian personnel, the application of legal and administrative procedures, and community engagement efforts.

Upon successful completion of the New Britain College Police Academy, Criminology majors may apply up to 20 hours to CRM 435: Supervised Field Studies in Criminal Justice per permission of the Criminology Department internship director.

Enrollment is open until October 22; applications received by October 16 will receive priority placement. If applications exceed seating, students who have completed CRM 230 and hold a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 2.0 will be given priority. Classes take place at the New Britain Police Department.
