Following its recent decision to move to Connecticut, Hanwha Aerospace USA has swiftly demonstrated its intention to be a good neighbor.

During a visit to campus on Dec. 12, the firm signed an agreement with the Central Connecticut State University Foundation to pledge a total of $200,000 over the next four years. The pledge will support a Mechanical Engineering lab on the third floor of in the Applied Innovation Hub (AIH) at Central.

Central President Zulma R. Toro and Stephen Lindsey, the Chief Technology Officer at Hanwha Aerospace USA, celebrated the agreement with a ceremonial document signing in the Applied Innovation Hub, with several members of Central’s faculty and leadership team and Hanwha’s Chief Operating Officer Franklin Dempsey and Human Resources Director Jaime Rochford. In recognition of Hanwha’s generosity, the university will designate the space as the Hanwha Aerospace Mechanical Engineering Senior Project Design Lab.

The assembled guests later toured the lab, a 1,394-square-foot facility on the third floor of AIH. The lab provides engineering and technology students with a space and the tools to collaborate on advanced engineering projects. Students and faculty typically use the lab to perform complex computer analyses, store in-process project components, perform additive and light manufacturing tasks, and test small mechanisms.

“We are very thankful to you and the company and we’re here to support you,” Toro said during the signing. “Central continues to evolve in such a way that we provide our students with the most relevant and up to date educational experience but at the same time, we will continue to strengthen our partnerships with industry leaders.”
