Central unveiled a new exhibit at the Elihu Burritt Library on Sept. 9 that illustrates the university’s evolution the New Britain Normal School, the state’s first public institution of higher education, to Central Connecticut State University.

The exhibit features various archival materials from the University Archives, including documents establishing the New Britain Normal School, historical images of the campus, faculty and students, early course catalogs, bulletins, student newspapers, athletic memorabilia and more.

Before a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to open the exhibit, Central President Zulma R. Toro said, “As you explore this exhibit, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the individuals who have walked throughout our halls and buildings. From the early pioneers who shaped our educational programs to the students and faculty who continue to push boundaries today, each item is a vital part of the Central story.”
