Central Connecticut State University celebrated a big year in athletics with a championship dinner on Sept. 15 at Alumni Hall. The event, hosted by President Toro, recognized five teams that won championships during the 2023-24 Northeast Conference (NEC) season: Women’s Soccer, Women’s Swimming & Diving, Men’s Cross Country, Men’s Outdoor Track and Field, and Women’s Indoor Track and Field.
“Your achievements on the field and in the classroom are a testament to your resilience and determination, President Toro said. “To balance the rigorous demands of training and your academic responsibilities is no small feat, and you have done that admirably. Each of you has demonstrated an exceptional ability to push your limits, to support one another, and to strive for greatness in more ways than one.”
In the last decade, Central has amassed the most championships in the NEC, with a total of 39 titles. Since returning from the COVID-19 pandemic, the university has captured 19 championships, surpassing all other teams in the conference. This impressive feat represents 42.2 percent of the championships available to CCSU, showcasing their dominance and commitment to athletic excellence.
