Central Connecticut State University was well-represented at the 2024 Latino de Oro awards ceremony presented by Identidad Latina Multimedia on Sept. 7.

The Latino de Oro awards were created in 2005 to recognize Latino and non-Latino individuals whose professional accomplishments have made a positive contribution to the Latino community.

Central President Zulma R. Toro received the Trajectory Award in recognition of her personal achievements and outstanding contributions to the Hispanic community in Connecticut. Winners in this category are selected by a committee.

In accepting the award, Toro said, “Standing before you, I am filled with a sense of humility and pride, recognizing that this accolade represents not only my personal journey but also the collective efforts and aspirations of our community.”

Latin De Oro awards are also presented across several professional categories, including Politics, Education, Student, Health, Sports, Music, Arts & Culture, Media Communication, and Contributor to the Latino Community. Winners in these categories are selected via an online vote.

Central’s Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Carmen Veloria received the Education award. The Student award went to Central’s Isabel “Mandy” Young.
