Update: University continues to investigate student illness

Published:

The university Environmental Health & Safety Department continues to work with the City of New Britain Department of Public Health and food service provider Sodexo to investigate the cause of the symptoms reported by students to health services.

The City of New Britain Health Department has approved all food service establishments to operate at Central.  All campus dining halls can be on their normal schedule.

No unique food item has been pinpointed as the source.  The city department of public health will expand its survey to determine the root cause. There is a group of symptomatic patients who are now in the process of being contacted and tested. Those results are expected next week.

Several protocols including sanitizing high-touch points like doorknobs and bathroom sinks will be implemented out of an abundance of caution while health experts continue to investigate.

Students who are experiencing symptoms related to nausea, diarrhea, and stomach upset can receive services at the Student Wellness Center. There is NO charge for office visits to see the health care professionals.
