Professor of History Dr. Matthew Warshauer will discuss his newest book, “Creating and Failing the 9/11 Generation: The Real Story of September 11” from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, at Torp Theatre in Davidson Hall, on the Central campus.

Although the September 11 terrorist attacks took place more than 20 years ago, their aftermath and impact continue to affect Americans; U.S. domestic and foreign policy; and the way the world views the United States now. In “Creating and Failing The 9/11 Generation” (Routledge Press; July 2024), Warshauer presents an assessment of what he calls “the most momentous event in history since World War II,” framing his study on 9/11’s sustained impact on America’s youth.

“Ten years after the attacks, in an attempt to explore my own feelings about September 11, I researched and began teaching a new history course called ‘The 9/11 Generation,’” Warshauer writes. “Students who enroll in my course arrive with a variety of conceptions and misconceptions about what September 11 means. They discover that the true story of September 11 is much bigger than they imagined.”
