The Alejandro Brittes Quartet will perform at Torp Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
Alejandro Brittes is an accordionist, composer, researcher, and interpreter of Chamamé, a 400-year-old musical genre born out of the encounter between native Guaraní cultures and the Baroque musical influences brought by Jesuits during the colonial period. Chamamé resonates with over 35 million people throughout Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, and other South American nations. It is a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage (2020).
Brittes was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but his family roots lie in the interior province of Corrientes. He studied Classical Music at Argentina’s Escuela Juan Pedro Esnaola and has 30 years of experience performing and presenting Chamamé throughout the world.
Co-sponsored by the Department of Music, Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures, and the Dean’s Office of the Carol A. Ammon School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
