The Theatre Department at Central will present "The Revolutionists" by Lauren Gunderson, a tragicomedy set during the Reign of Terror following the French Revolution. Performances will run from Dec. 5 to 8 at the Black Box Theatre in Maloney Hall. Curtain times are 7 p.m. from Dec. 5 to 7 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 8.
In "The Revolutionists," writer Olympe de Gouges, desperate to contribute and make her mark, struggles to save the Revolution from the men who are screwing it up. Help arrives in the surprising forms of a spy fighting on behalf of Haitian freedom, an assassin desperate for a good line, and even the former Queen of France who is just trying to make sense of change. Together these four women will use words, knives, tons of ribbons, and incredible courage to take on the misogynistic patriarchy of the French Assembly.
