The CCSU Many Voices Initiative Committee is seeking art projects that celebrate diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusion, and we hope you will consider offering this as an opportunity for the students in your classes this Fall semester. We would appreciate your help in promoting this project by including this information in your syllabi and offering it as an extra-credit or other assignment opportunity.
Project submissions can include original poetry, story, spoken word, paintings, video, photography, dance, drama, music, memes, and/or any combination of aesthetic mediums. (Submission guidelines are included at the bottom of this email.) Any member of the CCSU or New Britain communities may submit an art project by following this link. Students, faculty, and staff may participate in multiple ways including individually or in collaboration with other students, faculty, and staff; together with community partners; or as an integrated course project or extra credit, etc.
Art projects will be collected through Thursday, Dec. 8 and they will be showcased on the CCSU campus during the Spring 2023 semester. Artists will have the opportunity to enter a raffle for an iPad.
Blue Devil Identity Project
Additionally, we are offering the opportunity to participate in the Blue Devil Identity Project. Individuals or groups of students, academic departments, administrative offices and staff members, clubs, etc. are invited to decorate a wooden cut-out of the Blue Devil logo to signify how they identify as a Blue Devil and as a part of the CCSU community. Participants can use any materials and objects to decorate, however, they should be weatherproof because the project will be displayed outside during Homecoming weekend. Pictures of examples and more information will be coming soon.
Visit the Physical Education & Human Performance Department (Kaiser 0180) to pick up your Blue Devil cut-out or visit the Many Voices Initiative table at the Student Club Fair on Sept. 14. Blue Devil designs will be collected until Sept. 30. Blue Devil designs will be collected by the Sociology Department (Bassett Hall, 317).
Thank you for your help spreading the word about this initiative! If you have any questions, please contact Kate Ayotte kateayotte@ccsu.edu, Jan Bishop bishopj@ccsu.edu, Barbara Clark clarkb@ccsu.edu, or Heather Rodriguez hrodriguez@ccsu.edu.
