The next generation of journalists

More than 200 future journalists from several Connecticut high schools convened at Central today for High School Journalism Day. Sponsored by the Central Journalism Department, Central Media Board, and the Journalism Education Association, High School Journalism Day aims to teach students more about the journalism industry and introduce them to local working journalists. At Central, students heard from several industry pros on a variety of topics, including WNPR’s Lucy Nalpathanchil; Darren Sweeney of NBC CT and a professor of Journalism at Central; Alex Putterman of Hearst CT; First Amendment rights attorney Stephen Nevas; and Central Journalism faculty, among others. Journalism student and freelancer reporter Alexis Dascher gave the welcome address to kick off the day.
