Dr. Mulcahy is a Professor in the department of Literacy, Elementary, and Early Childhood Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in English Education (University of Connecticut, 2005), and an M.S. in Reading and Language Arts (Central Connecticut State University, 2000). She teaches courses on literacy methods, interdisciplinary literacy, critical literacy, foundations of literacy, and children’s literature. Dr. Mulcahy began her career teaching sixth and seventh grade social studies and language arts in Baltimore County, Maryland and then in Farmington, Connecticut. Current areas of scholarship are critical literacy, critical pedagogy and literacy praxis. Dr. Mulcahy has two published books, Marginalized Literacies (2010) and Pedagogy, Praxis and Purpose in Education (2015) coauthored with D.G. Mulcahy and D.E. Mulcahy.
