I am a marine biologist with specialization in seaweeds. I am also interested in watershed management and water quality of lower-order streams, particularly in developing and developed watersheds.
After getting my doctoral degree at the University of New Hampshire, I spent seven years at the UNH Jackson Estuarine Laboratory as a research scientist and then a Research Assistant Professor. Immediately prior to coming to CCSU, I spent two years as the Senior Scientist and Assistant Project Manager at US EPA/RI DEM Narragansett Bay Project.
I coordinate the Environmental Program in the Biology Department and teach a variety of courses in various aspects of aquatic ecology and environmental management (see below).
My current research interests are quite broad but focus on (1) water quality assessment of New England wadeable streams and rivers and (2) population ecology of selected Northwestern Atlantic seaweeds. I try to offer both undergraduate research projects and master’s thesis projects that are tailored to individual student interests within the scope of my laboratory’s research capabilities.
