Dr. Helen R. Abadiano is Professor of Literacy Education in the Department of Literacy, Elementary, and Early Childhood Education. She earned her PhD from The Ohio State University in the Graduate Program of Language, Literature, and Reading Education, major in Educational Theory and Practice in Early and Middle Childhood Education. She teaches graduate master’s and sixth-year courses in the literacy education programs such as Seminar in Literacy Research & Assessment, Practicum for Literacy Coach I and II, Family and Community Literacy through Engagement & Collaboration, and Organization, Administration, and Supervision of Reading Programs. Her areas of expertise and research include teaching and learning; pedagogy and education; curriculum/interdisciplinary/cross-curricular development and assessment; children’s and adolescent literature; academic writing; teacher training/professional development; teaching literacy in content areas; literacy for diverse population; second language acquisition; English as a second language; literacy coach training; accreditation; and curriculum and program development and assessment.
