Biography

Born and raised in Oklahoma, Dr. Gunter moved to Connecticut to join the Central Faculty in 2020. She received her Ph.D. in 2018 from the University of Oklahoma.  She has taught mathematics and mathematics methods to students of all ages and life stages including those in elementary, middle, and high school, community college, and university, but considers herself a middle school mathematics teacher in her heart. Before relocating, she was the PK-12 mathematics coordinator for one of the largest school districts in Oklahoma which served a student population of more than 16,000 students. At CCSU, she mostly works with students focusing their studies around mathematics education, teaching both mathematics content and methods courses to undergraduate and graduate students. Her research is centered around how teachers understand and value student experiences in their classrooms.
