Mike Voight, Ph.D., CMPC

Academia: Dr. V is a Professor in the Physical Education and Human Performance at Central Connecticut State University, where he teaches graduate courses in leadership, sport psychology, psychology of injury-rehab-recovery, and sport sociology, and undergraduate classes in sport psychology, leadership, & exercise science. Prior to this appointment he taught full-time at the University of Southern California.
Leadership Educator-Adviser: Dr. V has continued advising administrators, coaches, and captains on individual leadership effectiveness as well as assisting organizations/teams in designing and implementing their own customized DIY leadership development processes, including the likes of New Zealand Rugby, USA Volleyball, New England Revolution Academy, and many teams (Texas, USC, Wake Forest, Xavier, Harvard, …)
Team Consultant: While at USC, Voight was a team consultant for many of the sports there, including football, volleyball basketball, soccer, and tennis programs. He has worked with 5 different programs from the Univeristy of Texas, one of them winning numerous national championships. His clients have included teams from: Texas, USC, Wake Forest, Virginia, Kentucky, Harvard, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Santa Clara, and others. He does hold personal liability insurance.
Mental Skills Coaching: Limits his individual practice to Olympians & high-level athletes, like Texas men’s tennis players, an Olympic Gold medalist (Tokyo, 2020), and others.
Researcher: He conducts research on student-athlete experiences, coach and leadership effectiveness, team building, and mental training effectiveness. Voight shares the results of his research as a presenter at numerous national and international conferences on leadership, coaching effectiveness, and sport psychology. He serves on two editorial boards and is a reviewer to many professional journals.

(1) His latest project, with Donnie Maib (Associate AD at Texas), is The Captain Challenge: A Leadership Course in a Book (In prep), & The Sport Leader Coaching Challenge: A Leadership Course in a Book (in prep), both part of his 2023 sabbatical project.

(3) He has an academic book on sport leadership he uses as a course text for EXS 516, entitled The Sports Leadership Playbook: Leadership Development for Sport Teams & Organizations (McFarland Publishing, 2014)
(4) He has written numerous mental toughness training books: Mental Toughness Training for Football (1st & 2nd editions); Mental Toughness Training for Volleyball; Mental Toughness Training for Soccer; Mental Toughness Training for Basketball
