XR Lab

Virtual, augmented, and mixed-reality experiences utilized for education, training, and research.

Located in the Applied Innovation Hub (AIH), the XR Lab at Central Connecticut State University allows faculty, students, and staff to use cutting-edge technology that encourages innovation across a variety of disciplines and use cases.

The XR (eXtended Reality) Lab is outfitted with high-end technology including a selection of headsets, gaming computers, and software. Users can learn about this modern technology that is now being utilized at home, in school, and in the workplace to increase productivity, improve soft skills, develop creative content, visit far-off places, and have fun in the process!

The lab is available to faculty from all disciplines, including Art, History, Marketing, Music, Nursing, Robotics, Technology Education, and more!

Various youth programs are offered to give younger students the opportunity to experience this new technology first-hand.

Our team helps faculty envision ways to integrate eXtended Reality technology and content into their academic learning activities and objectives. We are happy to schedule time to meet with faculty to provide an orientation of the technology that is available, and to discuss ways to align this technology with student experiences that meet the goals of a specific course or program.

Virtual Speech

Communications, MBA, and various other programs use Virtual Speech to simulate delivering a speech, practice difficult conversations with work colleagues, and elevator pitches. The program's AI provides immediate feedback on your physical behavior and the contents of your speech, then asks procedurally generated follow up questions. Speech recordings can be uploaded to professors for individual review.

Nursing students using VR
Nursing

Nursing and DNAP students us applications like Medical Holodeck and Oxford Medical to simulate interactive medical environments. Students work with dissection, imaging, and patient interactions to gain practical experience on a flexible schedule.

Design

Digital Art and Design students use applications like Gravity Sketch to design 3 dimensional sculptures in an immersive environment. Digital Sculpture students print out their art pieces using 3D printers to bring them into the physical world.
