Werblow receives Fulbright U.S. Scholar award

Dr. Jacob Werblow, a professor in Curriculum and Instruction at Central, has received a 2025 Fulbright U.S. Scholar award to Spain from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

This spring, Werblow and his family will live in Malaga, Spain, where he will co-teach and conduct research at the at the Universidad de Málaga. Werblow will co-teach in the Máster de Políticas y Prácticas de Innovación Educative Programme with Professora Carmen Rodríguez Martínez and will assist on the national research project Nuevas políticas educativas de equidad: Desafíos en la profesión docente, el currículo y la estratificación.

Werblow says, “Having the opportunity to serve as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar at the Universidad de Málaga is not only a unique opportunity to collaborate with leading scholars in the field and to co-teach graduate students, but it also provides my family and me a life-changing cross-cultural, bilingual experience. Every day brings us new adventure!”

Fulbright U.S. Scholars are faculty, researchers, administrators, and established professionals who teach or conduct research abroad. Scholars engage in cutting-edge research and expand their professional networks, often continuing research collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for future partnerships.

“The School of Education is happy to support Dr. Werblow as he begins his work as a Fulbright Scholar,” says Dr. Paula Talty, interim dean of the School of Education at Central. “Dr. Werblow’s research interests and this opportunity for him to collaborate with international partners will enrich his work here at the university upon his return. I am confident that Dr. Werblow will form partnerships and engage in innovative work that will eventually impact the entire Central community.”

Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 400,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds with the opportunity to study, teach, and conduct research abroad. Notable Fulbrighters include 62 Nobel Laureates, 90 Pulitzer Prize winners, 82 MacArthur Fellows, 41 heads of state or government, and thousands of leaders across the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
