
Guest speaker Dr. Jorell Meléndez-Badillo will present “The Teaching of History & the Politics of Forgetting in Puerto Rico,” at 3 p.m. The lecture will consider how education, politics, and colonialism shape which stories have been told and forgotten throughout Puerto Rican history.
Dr. Melendez-Badillo is an assistant professor of Latin American and Caribbean Historyat the University of Wisconsin. His work focuses on the global circulation of radical ideas from the standpoint of working-class intellectual communities. His most recent book, “Puerto Rico: A National History” offers an accessible introduction to Puerto Rico, its history, and the contemporary political moment. He holds a doctorate in History from the University of Connecticut.
