Central's First-Generation initiatives are supported by the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost in collaboration with academic and student support services committed to supporting first-gen student transition, both academically and socially. As an institution we provide all students with a “blanket of support,” but when it comes to working with first-gen students, who comprise 53% of our student population, we recognize that additional programs and services are needed to address academic, cultural, social, and economic barriers. As a Central family of practitioners and researchers, we are dedicated to addressing barriers and challenges through a strength-based perspective that recognizes this population’s contributions to a diverse and vibrant community.
First-gen Student Institutional Definition: Neither parent or guardian earned a four-year college degree.
