Hosting a Visiting Scholar

All Visiting Scholars at Central must be hosted by an academic department. Scholars interested in visiting Central are encouraged to contact the Department Chair of the appropriate academic department.

Office of Academic Affairs and the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) has established the guidelines for Departments that host visiting scholars. Central faculty and Department must complete the Visiting Scholar Request Form

This form must be completed by Central faculty who seek approval to host a faculty member on exchange from a Central partner school or a visiting scholar from any overseas university for a semester or the full academic year. If the request involves a bilateral exchange with a Central partner university, this Visiting Scholar Request Form should be filed in conjunction with the Outgoing Central Scholar Exchange Request Form (available on the ISSS website). The ISSS website also offers the most recent listing of formally affiliated institutions.

Before completing this form, the faculty member should discuss his or her plans with:

International Student and Scholar Services - to obtain general advice and a copy of the Internal Administrative Procedures sheet, and

The Department Chair - to review issues relating to teaching, student/community engagement, general responsibilities, and the resources required for the scholar (e. g., housing, office space, salary, computing equipment, etc.).

Application for all visiting scholars for Fall semester is due by February 1 and those for Spring semester is due by July 1.

Verification of financial support is required. Funding may be from the University, the exchange visitor's government, personal funds or a combination of all of the above.

The visitor is also required to show proof of health insurance that meets the required levels of health, medical evacuation and repatriation for self and dependents. Failure to obtain health insurance coverage will result in loss of legal non-immigrant status. Appropriate health insurance can be purchased through CCSU upon arrival to the U.S. Refer to Mandatory Health Insurance.
