The Process for Getting Academic Credit for An Internship Is...

  1. The student finds a placement that interests them.
  2. The student finds a faculty sponsor (any full-time member of the department).
  3. The student and faculty sponsor develop an academic work plan for the term.
  4. The student must provide a job description or the internship supervisor’s contact information and supply written documentation that demonstrates the placement meets the criteria described above (nature of the work, start/end dates, hours of work per week, etc.).
  5. The faculty sponsor should review the job description or contact the internship supervisor to discuss the placement.
  6. The student and faculty sponsor should complete the Independent Study/Internship Course Registration Form and attach the internship documentation and the academic work plan.
  7. The student should gather the signatures of the faculty sponsor and the dean.
  8. Once approved, the student may register for MKT 497.
  9. The above steps should be completed before the student begins working. No credit will be given for prior work experiences.
