Audition

Department of Music will be doing both ongoing auditions via electronic submissions as well as two spring in person auditions. You can either audition whenever you are ready or wait to come to campus in the spring and meet faculty and current and future students.

In person auditions are set for Friday, February 9th, 2024 and Saturday, February 24th, 2024
and Friday, March 22, 2024. To reserve an audition time, submit the music-specific application form at least a week in advance.

All applicants’ video submissions will be considered for music scholarships. Scholarship offers will be made at the end of November and at the beginning of February, March, and April.

Undergraduate

The Department of Music welcomes all students to participate in its ensembles and other courses. Students should contact the ensemble directors listed by area below.

Applicants considering a major in music must demonstrate a level of proficiency on his or her instrument or voice that shows adequate musicianship and commitment to study in a professional degree program. All students considering a major in music must audition for the Department of Music as part of the application process.

Applying to Central as a music major consists of two steps:

Graduate

The Department of Music at Central offers two graduate programs—a Master of Science in Music Education, and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Music Education.

Certification

Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Music Education

Application to the Post-Baccalaureate Certification Program in Music Education consists of two steps:

  1. Apply to the University using the online application.
  2. Apply to the Department of Music. Application may be found HERE or call 860.832.2912 or email our secretary music@ccsu.edu.
  • All applicants to the Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Music Education will complete a performance audition. For audition requirements, click here.
  • In place of in person auditions, we will be accepting video submissions. Read more about this process here.
  • After review of the application materials (forms and video) we will contact the candidate for an online interview with Music Ed faculty.
  • The online interview is conducted to assess the applicant's ability to analyze and synthesize their life experiences as indicators of the student's potential for Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Music Education study.
  • People accepted and confirmed will, by the start of the semester, take a graduate theory and aural skills placement exam, intended to evaluate your knowledge of basic undergraduate theory and aural skills. Information on this exam can be found HERE.
  • The minimum GPA requirement is a 2.70 based on a 4.00-point scale where an A is 4.00.

Master of Science in Music Education
