Central recently joined the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU), an organization committed to serving and connecting urban and metropolitan universities and their partners.
“At Central, we recognize that being centered in the urban environment of New Britain, we have a responsibility to engage with and continue to collaborate with our neighbors,” said Beth Merenstein, AVP for Community Engagement and Experiential Learning at Central. “Our membership in CUMU provides rich opportunities to share best practices, explore avenues for collaboration with community partners, and share ideas for engagement, assessment, and resources.”
Founded in 1989, CUMU facilitates the exchange of information and ideas among member institutions about higher education’s role in urban and metropolitan settings and engenders a unified approach to the resolution of common challenges. CUMU also assists urban and metropolitan universities in shaping and adapting structures, policies, and practices to enhance their effectiveness as anchor institutions.
