The Summer Institute for Teachers of Spanish (SITS)

  • Based on current theories and best practices, the Institute seeks to serve the practical needs of in-service teachers and students preparing for a teaching career
  • Students finish the Institute with teaching modules that they can use in their own classrooms

  • Based on the idea that language teaching and learning cannot be separated from the target culture, the Institute explores different technologies that are widely available to help teachers integrate language and culture
  • The Institute includes modules pertaining to Spain and Latin American cultures and explores them in depth so that teachers will be well prepared to develop these contents in their classes

  • Teaching in the target language is widely recognized as one of the most effective ways to develop students’ skills, and the Institute explores strategies to help teachers implement this in their classrooms

  • Assessment is discussed not just in theory, but most importantly in the practical projects that students design and create in the Institute
  • Focus on assessments that actually measure what they intend to measure
