Italian, BA

Central to Understanding Italian Culture.

Central’s BA in Italian explores the linguistic and the social aspects of Italian culture. Students master intermediate skills in speaking, reading, and writing Italian.

The program prepares students with a background in Italian culture and society including literature, cinema, art, and commerce, as well as the history of the Italian American diaspora. A BS in Education option is available for students who wish to gain certification for secondary teaching.

Program Options

Strengthens Italian oral and written communication skills and familiarizes students with aspects of Italian literature, culture, art, history, and society.

Prepares students for teacher certification in Italian at the secondary level.

An Italian program is so much more than a cultural exploration of language. By investing in their Italian program, Central is moving their humanities program to the forefront of education. Through Italian studies, one gains knowledge and appreciation for art, art history, music, geography, architecture, science and more, thus creating global citizens and language competent scholars.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Speak at an Advanced Low oral proficiency in the target language.
  2. Write at an Advanced Low written proficiency in the target language.
  3. Use the target language to discuss major topics related to the cultures of countries where the target language is spoken.
  4. Use the target language to discuss the works of major authors of countries where the target language is spoken.
