The total number of credits for this program is 30 (9 at the University of Salamanca and 21 at Central).
At the University of Salamanca, students will take courses in the following areas:
- Spanish Grammar
- Practice in Language Skills
- Spanish Linguistics
- Spanish Culture and
- Spanish Literature
Courses taken at Central will cover:
- Spanish Grammar
- Hispanic Culture
- Spanish and Spanish-American Literatures and
- Research in Modern Languages
- The One Year Master Option
The Inter-University Master's Degree Specialization may be combined with the Department of Modern Languages SITS (Summer Institute for Teachers of Spanish) to obtain a Master's degree in just one year!
Typical calendar for summer through summer Inter-University Master's Degree
First summer: 9 credits transferred from the University of Salamanca or 9 credits taken at Central through the Summer Institute for Teachers of Spanish.
Fall semester: 6 credits (ML 598 or Span 560 plus one course selected in consultation with faculty adviser) at Central Connecticut State University.
Spring semester: 6 credits (Span 560 or ML 598 plus one course selected in consultation with faculty adviser) at Central Connecticut State University.
Second Summer: 9 credits through completion of Summer Institute for Teachers of Spanish or taken at the University of Salamanca.
Nine credits taken in Salamanca will be transferred as substitutes.
Students following Plan A will identify a research theme and develop it under the guidance of a Director (a Central professor). In consultation with faculty advisor and Thesis Director, the student may be permitted to work with a faculty member from the University of Salamanca as second or third reader.
