Special Events

Special events are free and take place throughout the year across campus, offering
activities that can range from a single day to an entire week. These events focus on
both physical and mental health, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Participants can often win prizes, and there are always new promotional items available.
While many activities are open to all, some may require sign-ups, which can be
completed on our website. For more details on upcoming events, be sure to check out
our social media channels.

Physical Fitness

A mile-long walk or run around campus, featuring free t-shirts for all participants! Those who sign up may also bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Maria’s Pantry, the food bank on campus.

Come compete to see if you are the Strongest Blue Devil! Test your strength in the squat, bench, and deadlift, and meet others who are passionate about lifting. This event is held annually and is open to all levels of experience, making it a great opportunity if you’re interested in getting involved in competitive lifting!

Join us for a pumpkin-smashing event the week before Halloween as part of Halloweek.

Take your best shot and score a new prize by participating in basketball contests.

In addition to our intramural leagues, we often host one-day events featuring specialized sports. Past tournaments have included pickleball, soccer, tennis, and dodgeball.

Our most popular fitness class features week-long themed sessions throughout the
semester! Past themes have included Halloween, Holiday, Decades, Valentine's, and
Mamma Mia!

As part of our week-long events and throughout the semester, our yoga instructors host themed yoga sessions! Past themes include spooky and fall yoga during Halloweek, holiday yoga during Rec the Halls, and sunset yoga.

Weeklong events

Each day, items are hidden around the recreation center for students to find in order to
receive a prize! Past themes have included Spide-n-Seek (Halloweek), Bring the
Gnome Home (Rec the Halls), and the Easter Egg Hunt!

A jar is placed at the Welcome Desk with a QR code for students to scan and submit
their best guess! The closest guess will receive a prize. Past items have included candy corn (Halloweek), peppermints (Rec the Halls), and Hershey kisses (Valentine’s Day).

Right before the end of the semester, patrons can enjoy a winter-themed array of
activities in the recreation center! Activities include holiday yoga, themed cycling, a
peppermint guessing game, and an intramural dodgeball snowball fight.

During the week leading up to Halloween, the recreation center hosts a variety of
Halloween-themed activities! These include spooky cycling, themed yoga,
Spide-n-Seek, and a candy corn guessing game.

For a week in the spring, patrons search for eggs hidden around the recreation center! If you spot one, you can redeem a prize at the Welcome Desk.

Intramurals

The intramural Cup is awarded to the team with the highest participation each year. Each Winning team will receive unique championship t-shirts Along with their team’s name engraved on the CCSU Intramural cup.

  • Teams must keep the same name throughout each intramural sport
     
  • A new “Franchise” will be awarded the Intramural cup at the end of each spring SEMESTER
     
  • A leaderboard will be posted each quarter
     
  • Individual tournament participants can choose to add their participation points to a team’s total so long as they have participated on that team
     
  • If a team is removed from the league at any time, those points will NOT be added to the total
     
  • ejections will result in a loss of points; amount varies
     
  • Teams must have the league-Regulated number of participants
     
  • Team record and playoff participation have no impact on scoring

Individual tournaments

  • 5 points Recreation league
  • 10 points Standard/semi-competitive league
  • 30 points COMPETITIVE League - 50 points
