On exhibit: ‘Proximity & Distance’

October 17, 2024
4:00 PM - 7:00 PM

The Chen Art Gallery at Central Connecticut State University will present “Proximity & Distance,” an exhibition featuring six artists whose work explores ideas about how closely inspected images can suggest larger spaces, whether philosophical, geographical, or physical.

All are welcome to attend an opening reception on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The show will remain on exhibit until Nov. 15.

“Proximity & Distance” considers two parallel ideas. First, the re-emphasis of place over the rapid acceleration of time. Second, the notion of parallax vision, the displacement of objects when seen from two different points of view.”

The featured artists are Namwon Choi, Bill Conger, Carrie Gundersdorf, Jin Lee, Young Min Moon, and Pete Schulte. Shona Macdonald, professor and artist in the Department of Art at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, curated the exhibit.
