My capstone project is a GPS automobile tour that follows the route of the old Straits Turnpike Road, which was a toll road operated by a private company from 1797-1854, running from New Haven to Litchfield. The tour will be narrated and each talking point will be triggered when the automobile enters the GPS geofencing zone. Each talking point will describe a geographical and/or local history point of interest, with the aim of constructing a picture of what life was like during that time period, when so much was happening- the growth of industry, westward migration, religious revivals, and lively politics. The tour will be named something like “The Life and Times of Straits Turnpike.”

Career Interests:

My career will be as an independent public historian. I enjoy putting together newsletters and Power Point presentations and writing local history articles.
