Faculty Awards

Distinguished Service Awards

The Distinguished Service Award (DSA) recognizes full-time Central employees who have demonstrated outstanding service to the community.

Nominations are submitted by faculty, staff, students, and colleagues from other academic institutions. To be considered, a candidate must have delivered exceptional service to the university over an extended period. The DSA Committee reviews nominations annually and recommends candidates to the University President for final selection. An individual can receive the award only once.

Excellence In Teaching

The Excellence in Teaching (EIT) Award recognizes outstanding teaching at Central. Recipients are selected based on continued evidence of excellence in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of Discipline
  • Commitment to Students’ Intellectual Development
  • Originality and Creativity in Teaching Styles and Techniques
  • Ability to Secure the Respect and Confidence of Both Students and Colleagues
  • Ability to Inspire Students Through Intellectual Endeavors, Personal Integrity, Contagious Enthusiasm, and Encouragement of Students’ Independent Thinking

Each year, the EIT Committee at Central presents the Excellence in Teaching Award to one full-time faculty member and one part-time faculty member. To be eligible, professors must be nominated by a Central student and must submit a complete application for the EIT Award. Members of the EIT Committee evaluate each applicant through in-depth discussions and interviews, then select winners and semi-finalists for the award.
