Central’s Game Studies Minor provides students an introductory overview of the diverse facets of the games industry, which now surpasses the global film industry in size. This interdisciplinary minor encompasses a variety of courses, such as game design and theory, digital storytelling, narrative development, games in education, introductory coding, digital art, digital sound design, board games in the classroom, and educational live-action simulation/role play. The minor provides a firm foundation for any student looking to augment their resume with an eye towards working in the games industry or using games and game theory in their future work in education, business, or the arts

Concentrations

Prepares students to engage with games as an educational tool, as well as understand games as a critical narrative medium. An estimated 14% of all careers in the $100 billion games industry are primarily in narrative design and writing.

Provides students with basic introductory programming and technical skills foundational to work as a programmer or game designer in the games industry.
