Spanish, BA

Central to Understanding Spanish Culture.

Central’s BA in Spanish explores the linguistic and the social aspects of Spanish culture. Students master intermediate skills in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish; examine creative expressions of the language in relevant literature; develop skills in Spanish for the professions; and place it all in context through coursework in the history and culture of Spain and Latin America.

Students have the option to study abroad and earn an inter-university BA or BSEd in conjunction with the University of Salamanca, Spain. A BSEd option is available to students who wish to gain teaching certification.

Prepares students to obtain certification as Spanish teachers in Connecticut.

The Spanish program here at Central has been extremely beneficial for me. As a non-native speaker of Spanish, the courses at Central have helped me advance in proficiency, make friends who are native speakers, and learn about different cultures and perspectives of the Spanish-speaking world. The Spanish professors are all so kind and willing to help. Each has a different set of skills to offer, and many are native speakers, which makes learning about different cultures and variations in the language an authentic and natural experience.
