In 2017, Dr. John Mitrano shared tentative findings from his research focusing on Central Sociology Department alumni. At that time, he had received responses from 157 students who answered 131 questions regarding topics that included their reasons for majoring in sociology, experiences in the department, graduate school experiences, and perceived value of majoring in sociology. Of those students, 40% had gone on to pursue a graduate degree and 100% responded that they were “adequately,” “more than adequately,” or “very well” prepared for their graduate school experience. 88% of alumni surveyed responded that their sociology degree had prepared them for their current job as well as prepared them for continued advancement in their career.
