The Praxis Core tests are computer-delivered basic skills tests in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Test Preparation
It is recommended that students prepare for the tests. The “Prepare for a Test” section on the ETS website (www.ets.org/praxis/prepare) has free Study Companions which include sample questions with answers and test-taking strategies. There are also free demonstration videos online to help students develop a study plan and to know what to expect on the day of the test. Interactive practice tests are also available online for a fee. Students may study from a full-length study guide in the School of Education Advising Center, 229 Barnard Hall. Additional test preparation books are available at bookstores, though these materials have not been reviewed by the Central School of Education.
Testing Accommodations
Students with disabilities and/or health-related needs, as well as, individuals for whom English is a second language, may request testing accommodations. Accommodations must be approved by ETS prior to testing which can take several months. See The Praxis Series Information Bulletin (www.ets.org/praxis/register) or visit the Education Advising Center, 229 Barnard Hall, for more information. Students must register by mail if requesting testing accommodations.
Test Registration
The Praxis Core tests are offered at different computer-delivered testing sites in Connecticut (Glastonbury, Hamden, and Norwalk). The Reading and Mathematics subtests are each 2 hours long and are comprised of mostly multiple-choice questions. The Writing subtest is 2.5 hours long and contains multiple-choice and essay questions. All three subtests can be taken at the same time in a combined 5 hour testing session or students can elect to take only one or two subtests at a time. More registration information is available on the ETS website (www.ets.org/praxis/register).
Test Appointments can be made:
- Online by using a credit/debit card or PayPal account,
- By mailing in a completed Test Authorization Voucher Request form including credit/debit card information, check, or money order

Score Reporting
Scores are reported 2-6 weeks after testing. An email is sent from ETS when scores are available to be viewed online. Students should print a copy of their scores and also download and save an electronic copy. Be aware that Praxis scores are available online for one calendar year. After one year, scores will no longer be available for free. After one year an additional score report may be requested for a $50 fee.
Test Retake Policy
Praxis Core tests may be taken as many times as necessary to achieve passing scores. However, there is a 21-day waiting period between tests (see The Praxis Series Information Bulletin for the official Test Retake Policy at http://www.ets.org/praxis/register). Students need to only retake the portion(s) of the exam that they have not previously passed.
