The Office of Victim Advocacy (OVA) offers a variety of opportunities for students to get involved in supporting survivors of interpersonal violence and promoting a safer campus community. Through our student worker, internship, volunteer, and graduate assistantship positions, students gain hands-on experience in advocacy, prevention education, and survivor support. Student works, interns, volunteers, and graduate assistants work closely with OVA staff to develop programming, provide resources, and engage in campus initiatives. These roles are ideal for students passionate about social justice, victim advocacy, and making a meaningful impact on campus. Employment at OVA can be highly beneficial for students in various majors and fields of study, including but not limited to: Human Services & Advocacy, Psychology & Mental Health, Legal & Criminal Justice, Education & Student Affairs, and Communication & Community Engagement.

Internship, Student Worker, & Volunteer

  • Assist with day-to-day functions of the Office of Victim Advocacy reception area, including greeting visitors, taking messages when supervisor is not available, and keeping the office stocked with brochures and materials.
  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned, including data entry, filing, and preparation of materials for presentations and trainings.
  • Represent the Office of Victim Advocacy at campus events and information tables and demonstrate an ability to answer questions about the office’s functions and programs.
  • Assist with violence prevention and awareness campaigns and programs.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Graduate Assistantship

  • Assist in providing advocacy and resources for students impacted by interpersonal violence.
  • Support outreach initiatives, prevention programming and awareness campaigns such as Denim Day, The Clothesline Project, Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and more.
  • Help coordinate training sessions for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and campus/community resources.
  • Assist with university-wide programs such as New Student Orientation, Accepted Students Day and Open House.
  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned, including data entry, filing, and preparation of materials for presentations and trainings.
  • Oversee social media and marketing content.
  • Supervise student workers, interns and volunteers.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Graduate Assistants earn a stipend and receive a fee waiver each semester that they are appointed as a graduate assistant. Receive violence prevention and advocate certification/training, as well as other professional development opportunities.

To be considered you must...

  1. Be accepted into a graduate program,
  2. Remain actively registered in a graduate degree program (9 credits full-time; 3 credits part-time)
  3. Maintain a GPA of 3.00 or higher.

*Graduate Assistants may not be employed by any other state agency or within any other employment category within the university.

The Office of Victim Advocacy accepts applications every fall, spring and summer semester.
